As of 2024, I’ve been a lawyer going on 9 years. I’m currently the Head of Legal at Root, a global insurtech company.
What I’m Working On
🚀 I’m a lawyer working in Cape Town, South Africa. I studied a BCom with majors in Economics and Law, as well as a LLB at the University of Cape Town. I graduated in 2015.
💻 On this blog, I write about topics like careers, law, technology, investing, startups and productivity. My posts are led by curiosity and I tend to take inspiration from books I’m reading, notable experiences or current issues that are relevant in my day-to-day life.
🎙️ In 2021, I started a podcast called Breaking Out with Jared Lesar, where I interviewed guests who had broken out of career paths traditionally regarded as safe or prestigious to turn their passions & hobbies into successful careers. Some of the themes I discussed with guests are entrepreneurship, career pivots, finding purpose, breaking stereotypes and the influence of socio-economics on our careers choices. I’m taking a break from podcasting for now, but let’s see what the future holds!
🎸 I love music, and enjoy songwriting and playing the guitar. When I can find the time, I sometimes post my original music to my SoundCloud & Bandcamp accounts. Please feel free to check it out if that sounds interesting to you.
🍎 While studying at varsity, I founded a travelling tutoring service called The 99th Percentile where I tutored high school mathematics, science and languages. I had hired a number of tutors to work alongside me, and this helped pay my way through university. I still love training and teaching to this day.
